Autumn this year was especially beautiful. Here is a shot that captures leaves on the capitol Square.

Summer wedding on State St.
Construction on lower State Street – winter 2013
I am presenting a series of photos of the construction on lower State Street in Madison, WI.
I am doing this post partially due to the prodding of my “coffee shop friend” Jeff, who implied that some people might like to see the progress of construction as it proceeds. My present plan is to periodically update this post as I obtain new pictures of further construction progress. So you might want to bookmark this post and the link below.
Planters in Summer
It seems that the city workers did a better than usual job of decorating State Street with flowers this last summer.
Healthy things including yerba mate
Here are an assortment of foods that I munch on to try to stay healthy.
- The first picture shows some spaghetti and meatballs with yerba mate mixed in. I have commented in previous posts about the health benefits of yerba mate. I am not so sure about the healthiness of the spaghetti though.
- Navel oranges were on sale and orange slices are always tasty and healthy.
Braunschweiger and cheese sandwich
Here is a sandwich I made just a few days ago. It consists of that god-awful German word braunschweiger. It is sometimes called liverwurst. I do not know of its health benefits, and is something that I eat on occasion. I added four slices of Mozzarella cheese and pickles were also on sale so I added them also. The bread is good multi-grain bread and has 4g of fiber per slice. I actually don’t eat sandwiches a lot, but when and if I do, I tend to use good bread, for health reasons. This simple and fast dish was also quite tasty!
First snow of winter of 2013
Here are some photos of State Street taken one day after the first snowfall of the season.

B17 Photographs
I have never been to an airshow before and it was neat seeing some of the old World War II planes on display. There are two photographs of the old B17, the Flying Fortress, shown below.
We probably owe a good part or possibly all of our freedom to this plane. I’m glad I was not around for this fierce fight though. My previous post honors the brave veterans who flew on this plane. Sadly, their numbers are dwindling fast.
The plane pictured above is a beautiful plane and it is in working condition. I saw this B17 take off, taxi, and land. Earlier in the week it was flying around the skies of Madison and this “bird in flight” could be seen from the ground.
There are YouTube videos on the subject of WWII. Here, for example, is a moving video. See the related links to find more videos on WWII.
Happy Veterans Day
I wish to extend Veterans Day wishes to all people who served America, especially the older veterans who served in World War II. This war to end all wars was a massive conflict, and I’m glad that I was not alive during that time. However, I’m very moved by the service of people who fought in that war. This blog post is dedicated to the World War II veterans who served America so well, and whose numbers are so frighteningly dwindling. On the other hand, maybe it’s better just to try to forget WWII.
