The classic Mifflin St. block party for 2018 was quite large. For the last few years including this year, the party has not been planned or sanctioned: but it has “happened” nonetheless. This year it was larger than in the previous several years. The streets nearby were very crowded also. Police had to close some of the streets due to the crowd size.
I attended to grab a few photos. It has been a few years since I have photographed this event.
The Mifflin party started in the 60’s as a Vietnam War protest. In modern years, I don’t know what the political purpose was, other than to have a good time. The party is nice and everyone was friendly; many people asked me to take their picture.
The “party” does cost the city $$, this year around $100k. Accounts in the local newspapers describe other details.
