Wiener and kale and cream cheese bagel
I do lots of weird cooking things. I so happen to have made a really “strange” bagel. Well, I won’t be too embarrassed. I made this bagel several months ago when purple kale was obtainable from the farmer’s market. I then put on cream cheese and added wieners. It was quite tasty. Although the wieners and cream cheese are not the healthiest, this is a tasty meal that one can have probably occasionally.
Tree in the autumn light
I was lucky to catch this tree when it was in the height of its autumn color. The sun was shining on it “just right”, and the whole thing was really beautiful.
This was taken in the autumn of 2009.
Chili with fresh farmer’s market vegetables
Here are some pictures that correspond to a chili that I made several months ago, during the summer. It was a Saturday and I had just bought many fresh ingredients, such as kale, Swiss chard, onions, and banana peppers from the farmer’s market. When I got back I made a fabulous chili discussed more below.
There is a nearly endless variety to the kinds of chilis you can make. I put just about anything in. Nearly every chili I make is different in some wah. During the summer months when the ingredients are available from the farmer’s market, my favorite things to put into chilis are chopped greens, such as kale and Swiss chard. The meal shown below has both kale and chard. Putting a few slices of (Kraft singles American) cheese is also great for chilis, and another fantastic variation would be to put in a can or two of cream of mushroom soup in place of the tomato sauce and beans. Adding a chopped garlic clove always helps, too. (I did not happen to have one at the time of this cooking.) I frequently “spice up” chilis, and the dish below has some chopped red banana jalapeno peppers; this warms it up nicely. I also spice up chilis with several chopped hot Thai chili peppers.
The chili shown below has chopped fried vegetables consisting of:
- two kinds of onions
- kale (purple)
- Swiss chard
- red banana peppers
- mushrooms
There is nothing in this chili here that is high in cholesterol or unhealthy (that I know of). Putting in a few slices of cheese or a can or two of cream of mushroom soup would add an interesting taste but would diminish the health aspects.
Diffraction limited resolution for digital cameras
This blog can serve as a “front end” to the rest of my web site. I can write a short introductory paragraph that introduces another web page on my site.
I just remembered a paper that is currently not linked and I mention it here. I am always reworking my site, and this link got left out. It will get put back in eventually.
A few years ago I did some studies of the diffraction limit of lenses. This paper is here. A catchy name for this paper would be something like New Year’s Resolution. This is a matter of plugging some numbers into some formulas (well maybe a bit more), but the results are somewhat interesting. This analysis is approximate and a more exact analysis would use MTF analysis, which is not done here.
I am a big fan of resolution and I still don’t have enough and can’t get enough of it. This analysis does say that eventually we will come up upon the limit. But there are so many other fancy features in the new cameras that resolution is only part of the issue. As a general rule, the larger the detector size the higher the theoretical resolution, and this depends on the f# number, as discussed.
Very simple but tasty hamburger dish
Here is a very simple hamburger dish that is also very tasty. For me this is a good old stand by dinner that is reasonably healthy and not expensive.
Chop some potatoes and onions and fry them in olive oil. A mistake that I made here is that I should have chopped the potatoes a little smaller.
Some street cafe images
A never ending interesting photographic topic is the nearly endless variety of lifestyle displayed in the luscious little street side cafes on State Street.
Rolls and butter are making me hungry.
Autumn leaves
Autumn on Bascom Hill November 2009 – 3
Here are some photos of Bascom Hill in the autumn of 2009. In autumn this is a very colorful place. This is one of my favorite places to photograph, and it is especially beautiful in autumn.
It was an especially nice autumn, although I think I did miss the very peak of the colors. I was fortunate to obtain a number of really nice photos. After doing lots of processing, sorting, collating, and other related activities, I am finally bringing to you the last of a series of photos on the autumn topic for Bascom Hill.
The second photo below is one of my favorites.
Bascom Hill images in glorious b/w for fall 2009
There is something classic and beautiful about black and white photography. These are images of Bascom Hill taken in autumn of 2009.
