Permalink: Mifflin Street Block Party 2011
The classic Mifflin Street block party drew an incredibly large crowd and was another fun and festive time for year 2011. This is the largest crowd I had seen in years, but I do not know the exact numbers. Some pictures try to capture the size of the crowd and the general festivity present.
I am late in getting out this set of pictures and they are appearing around 3 weeks after the time of the party.
I attended this party in the early to mid afternoon, and went with the purpose of trying to photograph it.
The Mifflin Street block party is a social barometer and the larger gatherings mark times of strife or difficulty. Party attendance swelled during the 60's Vietnam years. Now, with economic and some political unrest, and with high unemployment, the attendance again swelled.
Ladies here are about as pretty as you can find anywhere. And that is saying a lot since I lived in California a while.
This year they relaxed the drinking restrictions, and people were legally allowed to drink on the street. I didn't ask what was in these cans but you can use your imagination.
Well the day was young, and you can always go back for more if you run out.
The next series of photos try to capture the size of the crowds, which were very large this year.
This shot was taken in a back alley. The back alleys were almost as jammed as Mifflin St. itself, and in general I was amazed by the large crowds that gathered.
This party has often been marked by protests and sometimes riots, and a strong police presence is seen.
I am presenting the items here as a topic of photography. I do not necessarily agree or disagree with views, opinions, and positions shown or implied by the photography, video, or written material.
These notes apply to photos in general.
