This web page is very incomplete. I am working on adding items to this page. |

This is Medical George. I am not a doctor but have done some sorts of technical work related to medical endeavors.
More specifically Medical George are the web pages of George Schils that pertain to biomedical electrical engineering. There may be significant overlap between other disciplines. See for example the math pages for overlapping articles.
I have some experience in industry developing software for medical applications. Generally this is clinical software created for use on humans. There is a lot to say here, and eventually this section will probably merit its own web page. The discussion that follows is incomplete and many more details could be added.
Somnus Medical Technologies. I worked here as a consultant developing GUI display software (windows programs) pertaining to their patented (and trade marked) Somnoplasty system. (More, 2). This was a medical startup company that "went public" on the NASDAQ when I consulted for them. This work was done around 1996 to 1998. I have not checked this company for years, but some information can be found here.
Search Google for Somnoplasty and find many, many references on the internet.
Cardiac Pathways. I worked as a consultant for this medical startup company around 1994-1995. I developed many of the GUI dialogs using the Motif toolkit on the Sun platform using object oriented Motif GUI programming techniques in C++. Many techniques were invented by the group.
This company has been bought. I do not follow it closely any more.
It seems that all of these companies have run into some sort of financial troubles. However they did do well for the years immediately following their listings. I was not involved in the finance aspects and took no stock in these companies. (I earned average consulting rates doing this work, and did not get rich from these companies as some did.) At the time my interests were purely software. It appears that the medical schools like these products better than the finance stock traders.
This section contains more formal web papers.
These are references to items that are related to medicine.
Also see my math pages at the link below. Often there is much overlap between the electrical engineering items and the mathematics items.
