   1. Popular Finance
   2. Other financial links compilations
   3. Financial mathematics based on derivatives
   4. Economics software

This page collects various sources of financial information.

Economics and finance breaks into several categories. Information regarding a few of these categories is presented below.

I have done some applied math work as research projects on some aspects of modelling, curve fitting, analysis of the stock market as a random walk phenomena, and other sorts of studies. At various times, many of these results have appeared in these web pages.

1. Popular Finance

This section contains references to popular reading on finance and economics. There are references to newspapers and other similar sites.

  • CBS Marketwatch is a popular resource.
  • Check the world financial markets here. Generally, the CNN money pages contain much useful information. The price of oil and gold is found on the commodities page. Interest rate data is compiled and presented in a useful manner.
  • Stock market data references are given in the list below.
    • Data from the BBC.
    • Market summary data from CNN.
  • Stock market charts are available here. Graphical depictions of data are often very useful. In fact there are a number of nice charting and graphing sources. I may create a separate section devoted to this.

2. Other financial links compilations

This section refers you to other separate compilations of financial links.

I have compiled other sets of financial links at various times in the past. One old set of financial links is given here. Some interesting items appear in this old compilation.

3. Financial mathematics based on derivatives

This section contains some references for finance. Some of these results were found by searching for "differential equations of finance" on Dogpile. This section is mostly academic although there are some deviations.

I am not educated in this particular sort of financial mathematics, but may be at some future date. (That's the reason for the internet search).

  • Financial mathematics bookshelf. A long listing containing many advanced and classic books is given here.
  • A few books are given in this short annoted bibliography.
  • A general search for differential equations produces many results.
  • Go to CFO.com, and read up on the latest in academics.

More items are being gathered for this section. More items including bibliographic references are being collected.

4. Economics software

This section contains a limited selection of links pertaining to economics and econometrics software.

  • The Gnu Regression, Econometrics and Time-series Library - gretl - performs many kinds of econometrics functions. (A Windows version is available.)
  • Excel resources. Many people do their own analysis using Excel. It is pretty hard to beat Excel in many respects. There are many, many useful plugins, add ons, and other related Excel information given at this site. This can help improve your analysis.
  • The r program is oriented towards general statistical analysis, but it can be useful for econometrics even if only for its excellent graphing capabilities. (A Windows version is available.) Like CPan for perl and CTan for TeX, a CRan (Comprehensive R Archive Network) provides a large set of additional add-in capability. If you can't find it here it probably doesn't exist.
