Web programmers repent! The end is near. This will be the end of programmers, computers, web pages, and everything. Maybe not. They have said this with every technology, and most of them are still around.
We at FEREGO are starting to use our own webmatic tool pack as various pieces come near completion. (Part of this use is for debugging purposes.) We find that it can take from a factor of 1.3 to a factor of 2 longer to do web pages. This is because the original content still must be created and this is the same regardless of automation. Then the automation kicks in requiring separate files, script additions, inclusions, fixing errors, etc. These latter items can take much time over and above the time required for the original content. No matter how you cut it, there just seems to be no free lunch. You're going to have to put in the work.
There are advantages to be gained from this additional investment. Namely it is easy to change formats and other things included from files once, and they are changed everywhere. Most good things do not come without a price.
FEREGO's webmatic is a "low end" automation solution. It is relatively simple in concept and is still useful for a large number of web automation applications. High end solutions can get very fancy, and typical high end names are ASP, PHP, and JSP. We intend FEREGO's tool to be much simpler and to be used by a wide range of audiences without requiring great sophistication. Indeed this is very useful, and it seems to solve maybe around 80% of ones web automation needs. We use it much at FEREGO, although as mentioned above it takes more time.
